The Editor
Melissa Ortiz is a freelance editor in central Florida serving clients worldwide. Melissa is a recent graduate of the University of Florida’s College of Journalism and Communications, which is consistently ranked among the top 10 journalism programs in the United States.
In addition to editing at PerfectlyProofed, Melissa has had extensive editing experience across multiple platforms. As public relations specialist at the University of Florida’s Career Resource Center, she has developed and edited content for print and Web media, written text for various PR campaigns and served as primary content manager and editor for the Center’s Web site. Melissa has also written freelance pieces for various Gainesville publications, including The Newsies, the Alachua Post and Giggle magazine.
Melissa enjoys reading, working out at the gym and spending time with her nieces and nephew. She began editing in high school, serving as editor of Veritas, the St. Thomas Aquinas’ yearbook, for three years. As a collegiate student, Melissa was recognized for her academic successes, leadership on the UF campus and contributions to the community in the Reitz Scholars program, Matthews Society and Orlando Sentinel Scholarship.
Melissa currently works in insurance management, and will make a career in education, teaching writing. She makes a home with her husband, Hector, in Lakeland, Florida.
